Roof Replacement

There comes a time when we all need to do home maintenance and roofing is one of those on the list. If your roof is more than 20 years old, it’s time to see how it’s holding up. Some telltale signs include curled, cracked, or missing shingles, shingle granules in your gutters, or water stains in your attic or interior. If you suspect an issue, we can determine if you need a roof replacement, repairs, or one of our services called Roof Maxx®, an application will extend the life of your roof for 5 to 15 years, guaranteed, depending on the number of recommended applications. We will give you our professional opinion and a no-obligation-free estimate. If you need a new roof, we can introduce you to GAF®, the shingle that outlasts and outshines all the others, made in the USA.

Roof concerns go beyond the roofing material.

When a roofing contractor evaluates the condition of your roof, the primary concern will be the roofing shingles or other finished roofing material. But before deciding whether roof repair or new roof installation is right for you, the roofer you choose should also inspect and consider the entire roofing system.

Make sure that your roofer also inspects the following elements

  • Gutters and downspouts. Basements can flood and exterior elements can be damaged if gutters and downspouts don’t move water off the roof and away from the foundation. Prevent this problem by making sure your gutters are free of clogs, your downspouts are connected securely, and any long gutter runs are pitched properly to minimize overflows.
  • Roof flashing. The roofing contractor should check the flashing around chimneys, vent stacks and skylights, as well as step and valley flashing.
  • Skylights. During a roof inspection, it’s also smart to inspect the glazing seals between the skylight glass and the aluminum glazing bars. Leaks in these areas can often be repaired with special sealant.
  • Roof ventilation. Soffit vents and ridge vents rarely require maintenance or repair, but gable vents can give insects and rodents access to your attic if they are not properly screened. These vents may need to be inspected from inside your attic as well as from the house exterior.
  • Appearance (Need for a Cleaning). Getting a new looking roof can sometimes be as easy as getting a thorough cleaning for your roof. And periodic cleaning to keep algae and stains from accumulating on your roof can mean your roof stays in great shape longer. An ounce of prevention certainly prevents a pound of cure where a roof is concerned!

A new roof can give your house a fresh, new look.

The functional condition of your roof is obviously your first priority. Aesthetics often come in at a close second. Even if your roof isn’t in dire need of a replacement, you might elect to have a new roof installed to get a new look. Choosing a new roof before the old roofing wears out is a move chosen by homeowners who really want to upgrade their home’s appearance.

If you are considering a roof replacement, there are some exciting new roofing materials available – like composite shingles that look like old-fashioned roofing slates but are made from recycled rubber. Modern asphalt-fiberglass shingles have never looked better – especially the architectural grade shingles designed with extra depth and texture.

As experienced, professional Massachusetts and Connecticut roofing contractors, we can work with you to determine your criteria, needs and budget and help you decide what makes sense today: a roof replacement or repair.

HOW TO KNOW WHEN TO GET A ROOF REPLACEMENT

Depending on what type of roof you have, these are some signs that could indicate the need for a roof replacement:

  • Roof is very old or past warranty
  • Missing or broken shingles
  • Bare, curling, or buckling shingles
  • Numerous broken tiles
  • Damaged flashing
  • Cracks allow water or daylight through

Call Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding today if your roof is displaying these signs. Our expert roof inspection can tell you if you need a full replacement or if repair and maintenance is a better option for your home.

START BY IDENTIFYING YOUR ROOFING NEEDS

Over time, all roofs wear out and will eventually need to be replaced. If you wait too long to repair or replace the roof, you can end up with leaks and expensive damage. Replacing the roof too soon (if you’re content with the condition and look of your roof) can be a waste of money. Many minor problems can simply be repaired. It’s important to be aware of common roofing problems and which ones should be dealt with right away.

As experienced professionals, we at Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding can assess the condition of your roof for any early signs of roof failure. Contact us today for a free cost estimate for your property.

Roof Replacement for Commercial Properties

Roof Replacement is the number one request we get from property managers. If the roof on your property is 20 years old or more, it may be time to think about roof replacement. And though the age of your roof plays an important role, many roof damages occur before maturity because harsh northeast weather conditions. Problems you can look for include cracked, curled, or missing shingles; sandy granules in gutters or downspouts; or leaks and interior water stains on ceilings or in attics or crawlspaces. If you expect there is a problem, ask us to do an onsite inspection. We will determine if your property needs roof replacement, or if you can get a few more years out of your existing roof. We can offer you alternatives such as Roof Maxx®, an application that adds 5 to 15 years to the life of your shingles guaranteed, or Roof Shampoo® to remove stains and algae. Ask for a quote on any service we offer, or a bid that will outshine others.

Benefits Of Asphalt Roofing

Asphalt roofing offers many benefits for residential buildings, including durability, energy efficiency, and low maintenance costs. Asphalt shingles are also available in a variety of colors and styles to suit any aesthetic. If you’re considering an asphalt roof for your commercial property, here are some of the key benefits to keep in mind.

Durability: Asphalt roofs are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and heavy foot traffic. They are also resistant to fire, making them a safe choice for commercial buildings.

Energy Efficiency: Asphalt roofs reflect heat away from the building, helping to keep the interior cool in summer and reducing energy costs. In winter, they help to insulate the building against heat loss.

Low Maintenance: Asphalt roofs require little maintenance and can last for many years with proper care. They are also easy to repair if they are damaged.

Aesthetics: Asphalt shingles come in a variety of colors and styles to suit any commercial building. They can also be installed in a variety of patterns to create a unique look.

If you’re looking for a durable, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance roofing option for your residential property, asphalt is an excellent choice.

Metal Shingle Roofing

Metal Shingle Roofs: Durable, Sustainable, Beautiful

Make an investment in your home that truly lasts a lifetime! Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding is a proud installer of metal shingle roofing systems. And if you think metal is just for commercial buildings, think again – we have come a long way since the old “tin hut” days. Made in a wide variety of colors and designs that can give you the depth and dimension of asphalt shingles but with the durability of stone-coated steel. our metal shingles are not only strikingly beautiful, they are energy efficient and will outlast the lifespan of most other roofing materials. Backed by a lifetime limited warranty, this is the last roof you will ever need.

We are proud to partner with DECRA to provide only the highest-quality options in metal shingles.

Metal vs. asphalt

When comparing asphalt to metal, many homeowners look at the upfront costs but forget to factor in the long-term savings. However, metal is one of the fastest-growing segments in the roofing industry for one reason: People recognize value. Metal lasts up to three times longer than traditional asphalt shingles, which need to be replaced as often as every 12 years. Metal roofs also require little to no maintenance over their lifespan.

Structurally, metal roofing is much lighter than asphalt shingles, increasing roof strength while also requiring less support. This means it will stand up to rain, high winds, and heavy snow — and still look beautiful — long after other roofing materials have been replaced. DECRA roofs are rated the highest possible rating for both hail impact damage (Class 4 Impact Resistant) and fire resistance (Class A Fire Rated). DECRA is warrantied for 120 mph winds and lab-tested at twice that velocity! Not only will this give you peace of mind, it may even give you a discount on your homeowners insurance.

Additionally, they are highly energy-efficient compared to asphalt; metal shingles are installed with an “air gap” between them and the deck. Between this airflow space and the greater heat reflectivity of metal, heating and cooling costs can be reduced significantly. DECRA direct-to-deck products improved energy efficiency by 30%, and adding a radiant barrier underlayment can increase energy efficiency even further!

What About Cost?

A metal roof is a substantial investment. But it pays for itself, in multiple ways:

Lifespan:  DECRA metal roofs last two to three times longer than asphalt roofing, require little to no maintenance and have a lifetime limited warranty that is one of the most comprehensive in the industry – including coverage for winds up to 120mph and hail penetration up to 2.5″ in diameter

Resale Value: Calculate the impact on your resale value. Your roof accounts for as much as 40% of your home’s curb appeal. A metal roof can increase your resale value by up to 6% — while an asphalt roof may be considered a resale liability. Additionally, DECRA warranties are transferrable, which means the benefit — and value — of a DECRA roof can easily be passed on from owner to owner.

Insurance Discounts: Many homeowners insurance carriers offer premium discounts for metal roofs. Unlike asphalt shingles or wood shakes, a metal roof will not catch fire, even if burning embers fall on it.

Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding also works with homeowners to find the best financing solution.

Correcting Misconceptions About Metal Roofs

Although metal roofs have been around for thousands of years, only a small percentage of today’s homeowners have lived under them. Which means there are a lot of misconceptions about metal roofing.

  • Noise: You’ve probably been in an old barn or pole building with a metal roof and noticed how loud rainfall can be on it. But residential metal roofs are installed over solid decking and underlayment — making it no more noisy than any other roofing material.
  • Lightning: Lightning doesn’t care what kind of material it strikes — it’s looking for the highest point in its path, whether it’s metal, asphalt or wood. A metal roof won’t attract lightning any more than any other roofing material. It does, however, offer you additional protection against lightning — in two ways:
    • The high conductivity of the metal and large surface area of the roof can diffuse the strike’s energy, minimizing the initial impact of the strike.
    • A lightning strike will usually cause wood or asphalt roofing to immediately combust; in fact, most lightning damage is caused by the ensuing fire. The nonflammability of a metal roof helps prevent that fire from starting.
  • Weight: Many people think metal roofs are heavy. But the strong, thin, steel sheets are actually 50 percent lighter than most asphalt shingles — and 75 percent lighter than most tile, slate or concrete-fiber shakes.
  • Rust: Metal roofing is protected by galvanization with sophisticated anti-corrosion alloys, and by state-of-the-art color coating systems. The products we use all carry industry-leading warranties against rust.
  • Heat: Metal roofs get hot — just like any other roofing material. But many of the paint colors available help reflect solar heat. And metal roofing releases solar heat faster than traditional asphalt shingles.

Roof Inspection

Ensure your roof is in good condition with our thorough roof inspection.

How’s your roof doing? Is it keeping the leaks out, and the heating and cooling in? If you suspect an issue, it’s better to schedule an appointment. Ignoring a problem can often lead to more damage. As your roof ages, it’s wise to schedule an annual roof inspection so you can track the condition of your roof. How old is your roof? If it’s more than 20 years old, you may want to schedule an inspection this year. Of course, you could climb up a ladder and do it yourself but that is dangerous. Ask us to look at your roof and give you a free estimate. If we determine that your roof needs repair or replacement, we can give you some options.

Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding provides thorough roof inspections and roof certifications to ensure that the structural integrity of your roof is intact. Roofing Process & Preparations

Residential Process

It takes a team to put a roof on your house and we will be happy to be your team. If you suspect your roof may need work, the first thing to do is to contact Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding. We will take you step by step through our roofing process until you have a new roof on your home. Here’s how our process works.

1) The first step is to make an appointment to ask one of our trained roofing specialists to look at your roof. Our rep will report on the overall condition of your roof to see if you need repairs, or replacement or if you could benefit from a treatment such as Roof Maxx® or Roof Shampoo®. Here’s what our rep will look at:
SHINGLES: Are they old, missing, damaged, balding, curling, cracked, stained, mossy or popping nails?
FLASHINGS: Are the flashings around your chimney and fixtures missing, bent, damaged, loose, or leaking?
VENTILATION: Is your attic ventilation adequate, damaged, clogged, covered, or missing parts?
GUTTERS: Are your gutters old, clogged, broken, cracked, leaking, bent, or uncovered?
FASCIA BOARD, SIDING, METAL STACKS, DRIP EDGES, DECKING, or anything you expect may be an issue.

2) Getting a FREE ESTIMATE is next. After we analyze your roof, we will be able to give you options ranging from minor repairs to total roof replacement. We can also tell you about our 100% financing options, manufacturer warranties, and our 10 Year Workmanship Guarantee, which covers our installation.

3) PROPOSAL: Once you make the decision to move forward, we will develop a custom roofing plan so you can choose materials, colors, style, and options available in your budget.

Residential Roofing Preparations

Our crew starts early, and your driveway and yard will be transformed into a small construction site until the job is complete. We will cover your shrubs and foundation plants to protect them from falling shingles and debris. Please prepare the day before by following these suggestions:

1) Move all vehicles out of the garage and off the driveway before we arrive. Park on the street if it’s possible, or at a neighbor’s house so you don’t get blocked in.

2) Remove all hanging or potted plants, bird feeders, chimes, decorations, outdoor furniture, picnic tables, fountains, and statuary that is within 30 feet of your foundation, so it does not get damaged.

3) Keep pets and children indoors during construction. Keep everyone away from our vehicles, tools, and equipment during construction, and when our crew leaves at night.

4) Remove fragile decorations, pictures and valuables from your interior walls and shelves because the roofing process can produce vibrations that may cause items to fall.

5) Notify next door neighbors that your home is being roofed because it can get a little noisy. If possible, bring pets to another location because the banging and vibrations may make them nervous.

6) After construction, we use sweepers and magnets to pick up debris in your grass and around your shrubs. It is your responsibility to make sure we didn’t miss any nails or debris. Wear shoes when walking around your yard.

Commerical Process

Where do you begin and how does it work? If you’re managing a large property or commercial building, you know a lot  about how things work but roofing is so specialized that you may need more information and trusted advice. That’s when you contact Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding. We will guide you through every step from the assessment to the installation, so you are well-informed to make educated decisions.

1) Contact Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding to start the conversation about your commercial roofing.

2) A professional assessment will determine the condition of your roof, what is needed, and the urgency of the work.

3) Installation starts with our quote to estimate the cost and scope of the project with your input in mind.

4) Scheduling your roofing project is next and that’s based on weather conditions, urgency, and location.

5) Your preparations may include the notification of residents or building occupants about pending construction and  preparing the construction site so it is clear of vehicles and moveable objects.

6) Our preparations include the organization of our crew, selection of a start date, material orders, and construction details that do not interfere with your daily operation.

Commercial Roofing Preparations

Our crews start early, and your property will be transformed into an organized construction site until the job is complete.  Safety is our number one priority, and we go to extremes to secure the safety of your site and the people who live or work  there. We will also cover shrubbery and plants to protect them from falling shingles and debris. You may want to notify  residents or occupants of your buildings to follow these suggestions for their own safety and convenience.

1) Move all vehicles out of garages and out of driveways the day before construction begins and throughout the  process. Suggest that they park on the street if possible, or in a designated area so they don’t get blocked in.

2) Remove all hanging or potted plants, bird feeders, chimes, decorations, outdoor furniture, picnic tables, fountains,  and statuary that is within 30 feet of the building, so it does not get damaged.

3) Keep pets and children indoors during construction. Keep everyone away from our vehicles, tools, ladders, and equipment during construction, and when our crew leaves at night.

4) Remove fragile decorations, pictures and valuables from interior walls and shelves because the roofing process can  produce vibrations that may cause items to fall.

5) If possible, bring pets to another location because the banging and vibrations may make them nervous.

6) Mow the lawn before we arrive because it makes nails and debris easier to find and collect. After construction, we  will do a sweep of the yard to pick up loose nails or debris. It is your responsibility to double check the area for nails or debris that we may miss. We recommend wearing shoes when walking on the property.

7) Cover items in attics or crawl spaces in case dust or debris falls between the cracks.

Safety Over Everything

Adam Quenneville Roofing & Siding takes safety seriously and we follow all OSHA guidelines on every job we do. We are fully licensed, and fully insured, and all members of our crew are required to complete rigorous safety training programs. We go all out to protect the people at your property, the structures, and our workers. The use of personal protection equipment or PPE is mandatory. We use fall protection equipment such as roof harnesses, ropes and belts, construction-grade hardhats, safety clothing, and safety equipment to lessen exposure to hazards. We create and designate safe walking areas for residents or occupants, and post signs to promote caution where needed. When necessary, we follow all current CDC guidelines.
