Tips for the Cold Weather

Home With Replacement Shingles

With the Winter Weather coming you should always pay attention to possible threats to your home. As heavy snow builds up and melts there are some precautions that you should take.

You should watch for accumulation on the leeward side of the higher-level roof. (Always contact a roofing contractor for a referral for a safe removal)

Keep your attic well-ventilated to maintain a temperature close to that of the outdoors to minimize the risk of ice dams. A warm attic will cause the snow to melt, which then causes water to run down and refreeze at the roofs edge. If the ice builds up and blocks water from draining it can be forced under the roofs covering and into your attic or even down the inside of your walls.

Before removing snow or ice off your roof, always contact a roofing contractor!
